Sustainability

We’re on a mission to make South Bank Brisbane’s most sustainable precinct.

TOWARDS BRISBANE'S MOST SUSTAINABLE PRECINCT

South Bank Corporation is committed to being cleaner, greener, and smarter in everything we do. We will do this by taking action and responsibly managing our environmental impact to enhance the sustainability performance of our precinct. We commit to continual improvement of our environmental sustainability as we strive to create a better tomorrow for future generations.

EARTHCHECK BENCHMARKED

In early 2025, South Bank achieved Bronze Benchmarked status under the globally recognised EarthCheck program - the world’s leading science-backed benchmarking and certification group for sustainable destinations, highlighting our commitment to best-practice environmental management.

The Corporation is working towards becoming fully EarthCheck Certified, a recognition that will demonstrate South Bank’s leadership in sustainability and our dedication to setting new standards for precincts in Australia and beyond.

containers for change partnership

In 2024, the Corporation partnered with Containers for Change to deliver convenient recycling options across the precinct. This partnership saw the introduction of Queensland’s first Smart Bins, enabling visitors and locals to easily recycle their containers, with all 10-cent refunds reinvested into sustainability projects within South Bank.

The Corporation continues to invest in innovative waste management solutions that reduce landfill, encourage community participation and support Queensland’s circular economy.

queensland trust for nature partnership

Since September 2023, the Corporation has partnered with Queensland Trust for Nature (QTFN) to enhance biodiversity across South Bank.

Together with QTFN’s specialist team, the Corporation is greening the precinct, regenerating its unique ecosystem and helping visitors connect with and learn about native flora and fauna.
